Our November report marks an exciting step for us at DHF. It's been exhausting for everyone but we are back in full swing with our new report format. If you aren't familiar, here's a quick run down - we will be releasing one big report at the beginning of each month that talks about what to expect for the upcoming month, what type of bait and what colors are hot for that time of the year, what type of structure to look for under certain conditions, and of course our hotspots (more about hotspots below).
Just one report you ask? Yes, and for two good reasons. 1. Fish change patterns quickly, weather can turn at any given moment, etc... etc... so instead of telling you what the fish were doing the week before, we're going to help you learn what to expect and what has worked based on historical data from a number of different sources and put together smarter patterns. 2. Who better to update information on what the fish are currently doing than the guys who fish for a living...the guides. We've finished setting up the guide report section and are currently training a few guides on how to add a report when they get home from a trip. This will keep information fresh, almost real time, and provide you with invaluable source of info before you hit the lake.
Also 2 quick things - don't forget that the Guru's tournament is this weekend, November 7th & 8th. Click here for more information and for the registration forms. The other thing I'd like to mention is that October 27th marked our first full year of having this site live and we are blown away by the numbers that we've seen while studying our analytic reports. They by far exceeded our expectations for the first year and we owe a big thanks to you for making that happen. Like always we are working on ways to improve the site by trimming some fat and adding some new features to test out and we have a couple cool things planned for the next few weeks. We'll update everyone when they're ready...for now, on to the report!

Whoa...a new report! I know, we deserve it - with the Summer Season in full swing we've been slammed, but that's a good problem to have. We're working on some cool things for the site that's taking up a lot of our time. Throw in some fishing, day jobs, & family and it's no wonder they say there isn't enough time in the day. Anyway, on to the report...
All of the reports coming in have been awesome - guys are limiting out on Walleye, killing the Largemouths, and consistently boating quality Bronzebacks. The hot method to use right now is anchoring up with submersible green lights. The Guru explains this method further down in our report and how you'll catch a smorgasbord of fish.
As you'll see in the picture to the right, we met up with D.L. Hayes, Smallmouth Bass World Record holder, and talked to him about the historical catch, heard some great stories about other fishing trips, and even learned about his piloting days. For some, catching such an enormous fish (pictures DO NOT do this fish justice) would be an experience of a lifetime, but imagine flying your own plane over this wonder of a lake, and the spot where you caught that fish - that must have been the icing on the cake for sure.

As each day passes, and with Spring approaching the rearview mirror, the fishing is getting better later and later in the day. Some of our friends over at Smalljaw have said that the night bite for them is on, with some catching 5 slots in just a few hours fishing. Bobby Gentry (Bobby Gentry Guide Service who's new website is launching shortly) took a father and son team out this week for their first ever guided trip, and their first time on the Holler. Read the review they left for Bobby in our directory and you'll see how much they enjoyed their trip - and by the way, Chuck Sr.'s 6lb. 1oz. smallie (pictured right) is a sure bet that they'll be back.
Flatts, grass, grassy flatts - you get the picture. Smallmouth fry hatch around the grass where they have cover from predators - this is where you'll find 'em. The weather has been pretty wet lately too, so keep in mind what we've said in other reports - the rain washes a lot of debris into the creeks and causes baitfish to feed up. People are having good days on shiners and flukes near primary and secondary points, and on a windy day grab your favorite spinnerbait (ours right now happens to be the new Punisher Guntersville Royal Shad) and hold on.
For the first time in over 20 years (some have said 20, 26, 30, 34 - bottom line, it's been a while) the Corp has opened the flood gates on the dam due to extremely high water levels. We waited to publish our report so we could include some pictures for everyone not lucky enough to see this historic event in living color. You can see a bunch of pics at the end of this report and can read the full story by the Dale Hollow Horizon by clicking here...

The big weekend is here - that is, the 1st Annual DaleHollowFishing.com Copeland Classic has arrived and with the new moon & awesome weather this weekend it should make for a killer first tournament. It's still not too late to register - you can register all the way up to launch on Saturday morning, so all of you guys that were waiting to see what the weather was going to be like, start making your plans. Cancel the BBQ this weekend with the neighbor you always talk about when they leave, call your favorite fishing buddy, pack up the pick-up, and get down to the Holler ASAP! There's a huge sale at the Dale Hollow 1 Stop all day tomorrow so you can stock up on your favorite tackle & accessories too, which is just another reason to get down here. To give you an idea, there's a $25 savings on the new Punisher CASTGLO L.E.D. fishing light just in time for night fishing, discounted spinnerbaits, power worms, hair jigs, and much more...DON'T MISS IT! For more info on the tournament click here.
Well, enough about the tournament, let's get down to business. We've all been waiting for that Spring awakening when the fish start hammering everything in sight and guys come off the water with that "OH YEAH!!!" look like they just hit the Mega Millions. Guess what...it's here, and it's going off this weekend. You've got several ingredients for that "perfect storm". 1 - The new moon. With the action delayed because of the flip-flopping weather, the moon phase will have even more of an impact on the fish. 2 - Weather. Studies have shown that the single most important factor that affects fishing is weather. When weather becomes more stable, so does the fishing. Big fluctuations in weather will cause fishing to be hit or miss, which is what we've seen in the late Winter/early Spring season. The weather has been pretty stable this week and the warm weather will cause the lake temps to rise creating more feeding activity.

Fishing has definitely picked up in the backs of the creeks. Why you ask? Warm water, especially on the upper end of the lake where it's anywhere from 3-6 degrees warmer in some spots. It's only natural for shallower water and northern banks to warm first We also had those storms come through which brought warmer rains - and man did it rain. When it rains like that is also washes a whole bunch of plant life (plankton) down the hollers and into the creeks causing the baitfish to feed more, and we all know where there's prey...there's predators.
Smallies have been a little hit or miss though - some guys were calling in with 12 in a day and others were getting blanked or might have boated two - but so it goes on "The Holler". It's a big reason why everyone wants to fish here - let's face it, fishermen have big egos. It's a known fact, proven scientifically. If a lake humbles you then by God you're gonna keep going back for more punishment until you figure her out - and when you finally do you're gonna take lots of pictures and tell all of your buddies about your great conquest and they'll call the mayor to organize a big parade and people in the streets will be calling your name - wait, maybe that was my dream last night. Anyway, if you can believe that there was a point to that, it's that we know you're not going to give up after a rough day so just stay persistent, fill yourself full of knowledge from articles, forums, & guides, and your day will come - and when it does we can't wait to see the pictures
Don't forget our tournament is getting closer - April 25th & 26th - details can be found by clicking here. Click here to print the registration form! Also, we're helping to organize a benefit tournament for the family of Kevin Watson on Saturday, April 11th.- details can be found here.
