10lb Largemouth caught on Dale Hollow

10lb-largemouth4Congratulations to David Thompson of Moss, TN for landing this whale!  David brought the oversized bucketmouth to the Dale Hollow 1 Stop this afternoon to be weighed, and it tipped the scales at 10lbs. 8oz.  Stephen Headrick, a.k.a. The Smallmouth Guru, said, "It's the biggest one I've personally seen come out of the Holler".

David said he caught the fish on a flippin' jig in about 10' of water around a stump.  If you're looking for the exact location, well, you'll have to take that one up with David!

Once in a lifetime...
written by Preston Moore, April 10, 2009
I had just left 1 Stop and was almost home when Stephen called me, "You've gotta see this fish man!". I told him to take some pictures but he couldn't find his memory card.

I drove back into town under tornado warnings to snap a few shots of a fish - boy am I glad I did. It's not everyday that you get to see a fish like that in person, and some people never will. I'm just glad David waited for me to get down there instead of taking cover himself.

Makes you wanna go fishing smilies/shocked.gif

Too bad he kept it and killed it. That fish is full of eggs.
They make replicas, you know.

I believe if I caught something like that I would have to take it with me too! Yeah they make replicas but nothing like having the real thing to show off! Nice fish!!

It would be hard to let anything over 10 go and not hang it on the wall. I believe it would go home with me as well.smilies/cool.gif

Huge fish but it were I that caught it, she would still be swimming without a doubt.

I agree, weighing it and taking a picture at one of the marinas would have been a better option. I caught a 24" 13.5 in girth Smallie a while back. She is still alive and well, unless someone with less foresight took her back out and kept her. I had the taxidermy shop in Livingston order a plastic mount of here and it looks just like her. Hopefully she is still there for someone else to enjoy the thrill I experienced. I know this times are exciting but lets not loose sight of how long it took for these type fish to get to where they are. I take a camera with me everytime I go out and they are not out of the water but a very, very short time.
